REVIEWS: Furioso

Blood Of The Ancient (GER)

It`s very brave to start off with the longest song of the album, but this is only one example for the fact that PAVOR is a very obstinate band of its own... Originally I intended to feature them in this issue with an interview, but all of a sudden bassist Rainer Landfermann (I guess most of you will know him from his awesomely insane vocals on BETHLEHEM`s masterpiece `Dictius Te Necare` as well as his former activities with PAVOR of course...) told all his contacts that the band wouldn`t like to answer any questions at the moment right now... This is kinda strange due to the fact that `Furioso` hasn`t been released too long before and the promotional work should be kept going... Nevertheless I`ve got to say that this is by far the most professional self-produced album I`ve heard since a very, very long time...!!! Imagine a bastard of blasting US Death Metal and technical heaviness in the vein of i.e. ATHEIST, CYNIC and the likes, melted with some decent Jazz influences as well as featuring the bass guitar on one level together with the other instruments... – Yeah, the deep six strings aren`t satisfied with being "just" a rhythm basis for the music, instead of this there are some crazy, unusual, jazzy bass lines that prove – together with the genius guitar work as well as the ultra-precise human drum machine – that the four musicians here have managed to handle their instruments very close to perfection. The statement in the booklet against all wimps, dilettantes, kiddies and fakes is therefore justified totally! And it`s really kinda strange that despite this indeed complex music the I used to listen to this album already for nearly maybe 50 times! – `Furioso` doesn`t get boring, and even after 50 times of listening experiences you`re finding new nuances, details etc. you didn`t get aware of before... This album is a total masterpiece, these statements of mine are being confirmed by the intelligent, strange, non-conform and very interesting lyrics that are fitting to the music totally. I guess PAVOR are much more "true" than most of nowadays` groups claiming to be... Hm, the only thing I`d like to criticise would be the vocals that sound a bit too monotonous... – But that`s only a matter of taste, I guess. This is music for a new aeon, music for a limited circle of listeners of course, but also music for a trip into a new dimension of sound... I can`t believe that no label has already cared for PAVOR, hell, concept-wise the French company SEKHMET RECORDS would be definitely fitting. - Imposed meretricious gilders of a thousandfold nullity they are! Please get suddenly in touch with PAVOR, c/o Rainer Landfermann, Sonnenbergweg 8, 53424 Remagen, Germany.
