/ StillOnline.be (BEL) On their somophore effort German technical death metal outfit Pavor make their intentions crystal clear: world domination. "Consuming Impulse" era Pestilence (speed, brutality), Cynic (exotic basslines, odd time frames) and Theory In Practice (lead guitar) are just a few mentionworthy genre acts that leap to mind when listening to Pavor's second album. The skill and ambition that "Furioso" houses is truly unmatched in today's underground, all musicians possess towering heights of compositional and technical skills, making "Furioso" easily one of the most pure yet unconventional death metal albums of recent years. 'Inflictor Of Grimness', 'Inconsistent ClayBlood Totemist', 'A Schizoid Uglifier' or 'Crucified Hopes' are just a few of the tracks worth mentioning on this truly flawless album. The production is up there with today's big names: all instruments are clearly recognizable, Michael Pelkowsky's drums are placed well in the mix making the whole sound powerful while the inventive and mind boggling basslines of Rainer Landfermann remain audible at all times, soloing just as sole guitarist Armin Rave does. Claudius Schwartz draws parallels with Canada's Kataklysm in the vocal department, guttural and deep yet never loosing an inch of expression and variation. "Furioso" is the perfect example of what the future of death metal looks like: technical, inventive and bizarre. Highly recommended! Wouter Roemers |
