(BEL) Technical and still entertaining, progressive and still brutal death metal is the name of the game here... and I only say death metal 'cos it doesn’t really fit into anything else. I guess the technical prog. death metal is pretty alive again; especially Cynic - Death - Atheist inspired music is almost booming. Acts such as Psychotogen, Aletheian, Behold... The Arctopus or above all Kralizec perfectly prove this rebirth in my eyes. Pavor’s music does really fit perfectly into technical music. Similar style to the above mentioned acts would be a good start but I even get the feeling that describing Pavor as only a technical act shall not give the right picture about this album. The music recorded on "Furioso" is for my opinion way more accessible and even violent that the usual technical death metal acts. So what does it sound like? Eventually something quite difficult to describe: vocals are ultra guttural and reinforce the death metal filiation. The music is heavily guitar driven, with some progressive solos. The bass lines feature lotsa jazz surroundings... Strangely (and apart from a song such as "Crucified Hopes") easy melodies occur in every track and the combination melody, impact, growls and technical backgrounds give Pavor’s music a quite unique touch. Against all odds, the eight long songs of "Furioso" feature enough variety to keep you interested through the whole album. Very good music for a selected audience. Patricia |
