Darkness Magazine (USA) In such an oversaturated death metal scene, with so many clones of greatness and everybody trying so hard to be the next Carcass or the next Cannibal Corpse, I ask the question, is there any true, honest brutality left? Well the answer is a resounding YES! From Germany come possibly the best thing to happen to dark death metal since the invention of pitch change! PAVOR! This is Imperator Music's mainman Rainer Landfermann's band who were raved about in issue 7, interviewed in issue 8 and now praised in issue 9! I bow at the altar of PAVOR! Technical death metal has a tradition of being boring and so complicated that it loses the listener. Well all that has changed with this CD. It contains some most incredible basswork since Atheist, in fact I would say it rivals it. Rainer just goes nuts on the bottom end. I mean I've known bassists and then I have known BASSISTS! Nothing short of awestrickening. Pelkowsky's pounding of the thunder machine keeps in perfect pace with the hell paced rhythms of Seebens and Rave, who also show incredible musicianmanship, precision and unmatched skill, not to mention the guitar production is flawless, simply flawless. The production overall is great but I especially loved the sound on the leads. What I am trying to say is, what can one do with perfection? You really can't complain about ANYTHING here. This album is well produced, extremely well played, technically masterful and very memorable. I have been humming "Pavor" in my head since I first listened to this. Eight songs that personify what death metal is all about. The demo was incredible but this is magnificent. Imperator Music is an up and coming label from which we will no doubt hear a lot from in the very near future, but in the meantime discover the genius that is PAVOR for yourself. This band takes the know-how and ability of Atheist with the heaviness of Carnage or Dismember and all the subtlety of nuclear fusion, don't miss this! |
